De’ang People

The De'ang people are one of the indigenous peoples of Ruili. They are mainly distributed in villages such as Manghai, Guangsong and Leigong in Huyu Township, and Guangka, Leimen, Nansang in Mengxiu Township, and He Nanmao in Mengmao Town. Their residences are mostly at a basin’s periphery with an altitude of 900-1000 m and the sub-tropical hillside forest. They live in scattered groups, and most of their villages are sandwiched between the villages of the Dai, Jingpo and Han peoples. Since all De'ang people believe in Buddhism, the best building in each of their villages is a monastery for the Buddha statue. Since their religious beliefs are the same as the Dai people, many of their customs are also the same as the Dai people. Their main festival is the Songkran Festival. In addition, there are also other religious festivals such as the Open-Door Festival and Close-Door Festival and Practicing “Bai” Fair.
