The Lisu ethnic group is the fourth largest minority in the Ruili mountainous area, following the Jingpo, De'ang, and Han ethnic groups. They are mainly distributed in Dengzha Village Committee of Mengxiu Township and villages such as Banling and Banyang in Huyu Township of Ruili City. Their residences are mostly located in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas, characterized by large dispersion and small clusters. The traditional clothing of Lisu women in Ruili is generally similar to that of the Lisu in the Nujiang area. They wear hats made of shells and beads, right-collared jackets, hemp long skirts, light-colored short waistcoats, and dark-colored padded jackets. They also wear necklaces made of shells, beads, silver coins, and agate. The clothing is finely made with beautiful patterns. Men typically wear black or dark blue headwraps, hemp long or short coats, and like to carry long or short knives. The traditional ethnic festivals of the Lisu are the "Kuoshi Festival" and the "Knife Pole Festival." During these festivals, the Lisu people dress in their finest clothes, gather together, perform daring acts such as climbing knife mountains and walking through fire seas, singing and dancing throughout the night.
